Diamantes

Diamantes

Feature documentary film directed by Daniela Thomas, Sandra Corveloni and Beto Amaral

DIAMANTES is a portrait of 3 women, who live in a remote village in the heart of Brazil, which sprawls on the hillside of a giant and abandoned Diamond-mining crater, from the XIX century. The crater is like a monumental scar of the patriarchal, slave powered economy which still has a firm grasp on us.
The women tell their life-stories and as the film unwinds, in a subtle pace, they weave into it a phenomenal experience of violence, which they tell with startling naturality. Violence which has been perpetrated by men, in a country which has not yet come to terms with the inheritances from its colonial past..
The history of the devastation of Nature in Brazil is told in a very intimate and feminine way. Through their narratives one can visualize the devastation of their bodies mimicking the world around them. Yet there is also hope in these same bodies which stands still with dignity, conscience, and a flame of love for life.
